The international border between the Canada United States of America and the county line between Oxford Co Franklin Co meet in this remote, high-elevation watershed. Dominating the eastern terrain is Indian Stream Mtn, which looks down upon a complex network of glacial ponds and drainages including Little Northwest Pond and South Boundary Pond. The hydrology of this region is notably diverse, with the Massachusetts Bog Stream flowing through the central valley and the Kennebago River draining the eastern slopes. A primitive network of woods roads, such as Big Island Rd and the Around Pond Trl, provides the only access through this dense landscape of water and timber. The presence of international markers and the headwaters of numerous ponds, including Grants Pond and Big Island Pond, highlights the area's significance as a pristine North Country drainage basin.
