Norwegian Bay and the sprawling waters of Vermilion Lake dominate this portion of the Iron Range landscape, characterized by a complex network of islands and peninsulas. The irregular shoreline is marked by numerous family-named landmarks and historical points of interest, such as Holmbo Island, Goodwill Island, and Niles Point. Toward the south, the passage known as Oak Narrows provides a critical navigation point between the broader reaches of the lake.
