The Little Missouri River flows through the western edge of this Clark County landscape, where the confluence of several creeks and sloughs creates a low-lying, water-rich environment. The terrain is defined by the winding paths of the South Fork Terre Noire Creek and the Middle Creek, which converge near the small settlement of Burtsell. This area exhibits a dense concentration of local history markers, particularly through its cemeteries. Several sites associated with the community of Rome are documented here, including Rome Cem, Old Rome Cem, and markers along Rome Trl.
