Olsonville is a small focal point in the southwestern corner of this landscape in the Antelope Segment of Todd County. The region is defined by a dendritic network of drainages that flow through the grassy plains of South Dakota, most notably Lone Tree Cr which meanders across the center of the quadrangle and Rock Cr tucked in the southeastern corner. This 2012 survey by the U.S. Geological Survey shows the area's agricultural and rural character, with Route 83 serving as the primary north-south transportation corridor through the western sections. The sparse placement of structures and the prominence of named water bodies reflect a pastoral environment where the land's hydrology dictates the placement of roads and homesteads.
