Onia sits at the heart of this Stone County landscape, where the ridges of the Ozark National Forest are carved by an intricate network of waterways. The drainage pattern is dominated by Roasting Ear Cr and its various branches, including the S Prong Roasting Ear Cr, which wind through deeply etched valleys like Sugar Hollow and Boardtree Hollow. This 2014 survey reveals a rural settlement pattern defined by small communities and family-named landmarks connected by winding routes such as Ar-263 and State Hwy 14. Local history and genealogy are well-represented by numerous burial sites, including Purdue Cem, Smithee Cem, and Cooper Cem. To the south, the terrain descends toward Timbo and Alco near the banks of Timbo Cr, while prominent elevations like Ramsey Knob and Panther Mtn overlook the winding hollows.
