Orchards and the surrounding suburban expansion north of Vancouver are documented here at a time of significant residential growth. The landscape is defined by a dense grid of numbered streets that have largely replaced the historic agricultural character of the Fourth Plains area. Despite this modernization, several touchstones of the area's rural past remain, including the Brush Prairie Post Office and numerous burial grounds like the Elim Cemetery and Wilson Cemetery that anchor the older settlement sites.

The hydrology of Clark County is represented by Salmon Creek, which flows through the northern reaches near Brush Prairie, and Burnt Bridge Creek to the south.
