About this map

The Rancho Del Puerto land grant anchors the northern agricultural landscape of this coastal range transition. In the early 1940s, the western side of the San Joaquin Valley shows a highly organized irrigation network, dominated by the Main Canal and Lateral Canal systems that support the growth of Patterson, Crows Landing, and Newman. This infrastructure transformed the arid valley floor, while the rugged western hills remained defined by canyons and gulches like Puerto Canyon and Black Gulch.
