Chippewa National Forest encompasses the aquatic landscape of this area, where the vast waters of Leech Lake meet the irregular shorelines of northern Cass County. The geography is defined by prominent peninsulas and bays, most notably the long reach of Ottertail Point and the sheltered waters of Sucker Bay. The landform distribution suggests a rugged lacustrine environment where travel is dictated by the water's edge, visible in the way Ottertail Point Dr Nw follows the narrow spine of land toward the lake. Small interior wetlands dot the timbered points, such as Hardwood Point and Two Points, indicating the complex hydrology of the Minnesota lake country. Farther south, the isolated landing at Stony Point marks another significant protrusion into the main body of the lake, separated from the northern points by miles of open water.
