Claremont sits at the eastern edge of this agricultural landscape along the boundary where Steele and Dodge counties meet. The area is defined by its water systems and scattered rural landmarks, including the central Rice Lake and the wetlands of Moonan Marsh to the south. Numerous small tributaries, such as Medford Creek, Maple Creek, and Dodge Center Creek, drain these fertile prairie lands, eventually joining larger flows like the Middle Fork Zumbro River.
