The Intracoastal Waterway carves a straight path through the low-lying coastal terrain of northeast Florida, dividing the developing coastline from the interior wetlands of St. Johns County. Along the coast, Ponte Vedra Beach shows early residential patterns tucked behind the shoreline of the Atlantic Ocean. The inland landscape is dominated by dense drainage networks and sprawling marshlands, including Cabbage Swamp and Durbin Swamp, which are fed by numerous smaller tributaries like Cabbage Creek and Pablo Creek.
