Glacial depressions and marshlands characterize this corner of Otter Tail County, where numerous water bodies such as Block Lake and Fish Lake dominate the landscape. In the late 1960s, the area was heavily defined by conservation efforts, evidenced by large protected tracts like the Lake Sixteen State Wildlife Management Area and Folden Woods State Wildlife Management Area. These areas preserved the natural habitat amidst a sparse grid of country roads and small farmsteads.
