The Pilot Range defines the high ground of this boundary region, where the state line divides the high desert between Utah and Nevada. During the late 1960s, this area was characterized by active mining and prospecting, particularly along the eastern slopes of Mineral Mountain and near Copper Mtn. Notable mining activity is concentrated around Hogans Alley and McGinty Ridge, reflecting a landscape of resource extraction accessed by a network of unimproved tracks.
