The western reaches of Rio Blanco County are defined here by the steep, eroded drainages of the Douglas Cr basin. This 2022 survey illustrates a landscape dominated by the high promontories of the Cathedral Bluffs and the prominent Big Ridge to the north. These geological features create a complex network of seasonal watercourses, most notably Philadelphia Cr, which branches into its Left Fork Philadelphia Cr and Right Fork Philadelphia Cr.
