Carson National Forest encompasses much of this high-plateau landscape in northern Rio Arriba County, defined by a complex network of mesas and drainage systems. The terrain is anchored by several prominent flat-topped features including Cereza Mesa, Ciruelas Mesa, and Chosa Mesa, which are separated by deep-cut watercourses like Cottonwood Canyon and Carrizo Canyon.
