About this map

The High Plains of eastern Colorado reveal a landscape of dry creek beds and industrial extraction along the boundary of Morgan Co and Washington Co. Bisected by the Burlington Northern railroad, this region is characterized by small railroad-side settlements like Pinneo and Midway. The infrastructure here reflects a dependence on scarce water and subsurface wealth, evidenced by an extensive Aqueduct and the presence of the Old Black Tank Windmill. Near Xenia, the development of an Oil Field and numerous Oil Wells shows the transition toward energy production in the early 1970s. The terrain is largely defined by the ephemeral Camp Creek and the low, rolling hills typical of the area's agricultural and grazing lands.
