Scotts Hole and the surrounding high desert of Mohave County are defined by a complex network of seasonal drainages in this 2011 survey. The landscape is carved by significant ephemeral waterways including Pipe Valley Wash and the winding Bulrush Wash, which converge as they move through the arid terrain south of the Kaibab Indian Reservation. This era of the landscape is marked by the presence of vital water sources like Twomile Seep, which has historically supported livestock and wildlife in an otherwise parched environment.
