Baffin Bay and Alazan Bay converge in this coastal survey, where the saltwater environment of the Texas coastline meets the shifting sands of the barrier islands. The landscape is defined by its maritime geography, notably at Point of Rocks, a distinctive geological feature along the shoreline, and the tidal expanses of Compuerta. This area serves as a critical navigation corridor, with the Intracoastal Waterway cutting through the bay waters to provide a protected passage for vessels behind the barrier of the Padre Island National Seashore. To the south, the terrain transitions into the salt flats and wetlands of Penascal Rincon and Point Penascal. The boundary between Kleberg and Kenedy Counties bisects the bay, marking a remote stretch of the Gulf Coast where land and water are constantly in flux.
