About this map

Alpine Lakes Wilderness dominates the northern half of this landscape, where the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail traverses high ridges and mountain passes. The terrain is defined by a series of dramatic elevations, including Island Mountain and Cone Mountain, which overlook a network of glacial lakes and river systems. Water from Waptus Lake flows into the Waptus River, while the southern reaches feature the expanded waters of Cooper Lake and the northern tip of Little Kachess Lake. This area of the Wenatchee National Forest contains evidence of early exploration near Red Mountain, where Prospects are noted on the eastern slopes. A Footbridge near the Waptus River and a Boat Ramp at Cooper Lake indicate the established paths of travel and access points through the high country.
