About this map

Surveyors Peak and Pole Mtn anchor this high-elevation wilderness landscape along the border of St Joe National Forest and Clearwater National Forest. Mapped in the early 1960s, the area is defined by sharp topographic divides such as Surveyors Ridge, Avalanche Ridge, and Lost Ridge, which separate numerous drainages including Timber Creek and Collins Creek. The terrain is marked by the distinct boundary between Shoshone and Clearwater counties, a line that cuts through the drainage of Heather Creek. Remote alpine water bodies like Cliff Lake, Slide Lake, and Steve Lake are tucked into the southern reaches of the quadrangle. A historic Pack Trail serves as one of the few human imprints on this backcountry expanse, winding through the timbered slopes and providing access across the ridges to landmarks like Otter Peak and Collins Peak.
