The Tangipahoa River meanders south toward the massive expanse of the Four Mile Marsh and the Black Bayou in this coastal Louisiana landscape. Settlement centers around Lees Landing, where the river network meets a low-lying terrain of islands and marshes, including Fletcher Isle. This 2018 survey reveals a territory deeply rooted in family history, evidenced by a high density of small cemeteries such as Robertson Cem, Sand Hill Cem, and Stango Cem tucked between the drainages of Bedico Creek and Sims Cr. The southern portion of the map is dominated by wetlands, while the north is defined by a dense grid of rural roads and land tracts, including Stevens Strip. Small tributaries like Pole Bridge Br and Washley Cr drain the higher ground into the main river channel.
