The town of Portage serves as the focal point of this northern Maine landscape, situated at the southeastern tip of Portage Lake. The settlement is connected by Me-11 and Portage Rd, which follow the lakeshore past several community sites including the Allen St Peter Memorial Airport and Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Cem. Further north along the shoreline lies the small settlement of Buffalo, accompanied by the Buffalo Cem.
