The Potato Buttes rise above a landscape of high plains and dissected drainages in this modern survey of Carter County. The terrain is defined by its complex network of seasonal watercourses, including the L O Cr and its E Fork L O Cr, alongside Deep Cr and N Cottonwood Cr. These waterways carve through the range-land, creating the prominent Flattops and other high-relief landforms that characterize the eastern Montana frontier.
