2021 Map of Pozo Summit

About this map

Pozo sits at the western edge of a landscape defined by the ridgelines of the La Panza Range and the upper reaches of the Salinas River. This area within the Los Padres National Forest is marked by a complex network of canyons and peaks, including Garcia Mtn and Pine Mtn. The terrain is navigable via a web of fire roads and trails such as Avenales Ranch Rd and San Jose Avenales Rd, which provide access to remote areas like Soto Canyon and Sellers Portrero. Numerous water sources, including Big Spring and Lyda Spring, are scattered throughout the highlands, supporting the livestock and ranching activity seen at Avenales Ranch. A significant concentration of off-highway vehicle paths, such as the Howards Bypass Ohv Trl and Tower Ohv Trl, underscores the region's contemporary use for backcountry recreation and forestry management.
