Coal Mountain and the Danforth Hills define the high-elevation landscape of this Northwest Colorado quadrangle. The terrain is deeply incised by a network of drainages such as Ben Morgan Canyon and Straight Gulch, which feed into the central basin. Industry and habitation in this sparsely populated region are evidenced by the Maudlin Gulch Oil Field and the Stone Ranch, located west of the winding CO Road 57.
