The Middle Fork Salmon River carves a deep path through the high wilderness along the border of Valley and Lemhi Counties. Based on aerial photography from 1957, the map captures the remote confluence of the Salmon and Payette National Forests. Notable for its difficult terrain, the river corridor is marked by the Jack Creek Rapids and essential crossings such as the Big Creek Bridge and Bighorn Bridge. To the east, the Bighorn Crags dominate the skyline, sheltering high-elevation water bodies like South Fork Lake and Plateau Lake. Backcountry recreation is anchored by the Rattlesnake Cr Campground and Wilson Creek Campground, while numerous drainage systems like Kimmel Creek and Sammy Gulch define the watershed.
