The Pecos River snakes through the eastern edge of this High Plains landscape, where the seasonal waters of Puerto Creek and Carrizo Creek carve a network of arroyos across the terrain. Much of the northwest is dominated by the broad expanse of Agua Negra, a region characterized by limited settlement and a grid of secondary roads including County Rd-3 and County Rd-3W.
