Salmon National Forest dominates the southern reaches of this landscape, where the high peaks of the Lemhi Range descend into the broad drainage of the Lemhi Valley. This 2020 survey documents a high-altitude environment defined by its water sources, from the isolated Nez Perce Lake to a network of hydrologic features including Warm Springs, Purcell Spring, and Poison Spring. The terrain is characterized by deep incisions like Big Dry Gulch and Little Dry Gulch, which channel seasonal runoff toward the more permanent flows of Texas Creek and Eighteenmile Creek.
