Elkhead and the highland drainage of Elkhead Cr define this pocket of the Routt National Forest during the early 21st century. The landscape is dominated by high-elevation landforms, notably Quaker Mountain and Baldy Peak to the north, and Agner Mountain and Finger Rock to the south. A network of small waterways, including Hole-in-the-Wall Cr and the Dry Fork Elkhead Cr, carves through the terrain, illustrating the complex hydrology of the Elkhead Mountains.
