Broadwater stands at the heart of this complex marshland and barrier island system along Virginia's Eastern Shore. The landscape is defined by an intricate network of tidal passages such as The Straits, Hodges Narrows, and Cunjer Channel, which separate a series of ecologically significant marshes including Chimney Pole Marsh and High Shoal Marsh. The Atlantic shoreline is anchored by Hog Island, a landform subject to the shifting tides and currents of Quinby Inlet and North Inlet.
