The volcanic landscape of south-central Idaho is dominated here by the Craters Of The Moon National Monument, where the extensive Wapi Flow spreads across the high desert. This 2017 survey captures the stark boundary between the lava fields and the adjacent Pleasant Valley. The terrain is characterized by subtle elevation changes and the distinctive landmark of Rattlesnake Butte in the southern portion of the sheet. Remote access to this area is maintained through a small network of unpaved routes, including Gehring Rd and Wapi Rd, which navigate the edges of the lava beds near the border of Blaine and Power counties.
