Rattlesnake Pass serves as a critical topographic gap between the high ridges of the North Hansel Mountains and the lower basin of Hansel Valley. This 2017 survey by the U.S. Geological Survey illustrates the transition from high-elevation terrain down to the drainage of Hansel Valley Wash. The landscape is organized by a grid of rural routes, including N Hansel Valley Rd and 22400 N Rd, which provide access to this largely uninhabited portion of Box Elder County. The area is dominated by the prominence of Franklin Hill, standing as a landmark in the northern reaches of the valley floor, while the presence of the Interstate highway corridor through the pass highlights its modern role as a transportation artery through the northern Utah desert.
