Rays Valley and the surrounding high-country ridges of Utah County are defined by an intricate network of drainages feeding into Diamond Fork. This 2011 survey documents a landscape of numbered watercourses, from First Water Creek through Sixth Water Creek, each paired with a corresponding ridge line such as First Water Ridge and Fourth Water Ridge. The presence of the First Water Cabin near the confluence of these namesake creeks suggests the area's history of backcountry management and grazing.
