Redrock Spring and Mound Springs provide critical water sources in this arid stretch of the Shoshone Range within Lander County. The landscape is defined by the contrast between the flat valley floor where the Reese River flows and the elevated terrain of Redrock Canyon and Harry Canyon to the east. Transportation through this part of the Great Basin is limited to a few primary corridors, most notably McCoy Mine Rd, which cuts across the western flats to link remote mining interests with the regional road network. This 2018 survey reveals a topography where seasonal drainages like Mill Cr and Harry Cr descend from the high ground toward the river, illustrating the vital role of specific springs and named canyons in orienting travel and resource extraction in the Nevada desert.
