Reno serves as the primary hub at the southern edge of this late nineteenth-century landscape, positioned where the Central Pacific Railroad meets the V & T R R. The surrounding terrain transitions from the irrigated Truckee Meadows into a series of high desert basins including Lemmon Valley, Spanish Spring Valley, and Hungry Valley. To the northeast, the Pyramid Lake Indian Reservation encompasses the southern reaches of Pyramid Lake, featuring Anaho Island and Pyramid Island.
