About this map

West Branch Susquehanna River cuts a deep winding path through Clinton County, defining the early postwar industrial and transport corridor shown on this 1949 sheet. The borough of Renovo and its adjacent communities, West Renovo and South Renovo, are concentrated along the narrow riverbank, where the Pennsylvania railroad line and the Bucktail Trail facilitate movement through the steep terrain of Drury Ridge. To the west, the confluence of Kettle Creek and the river marks the site of Westport, a smaller hub of activity surrounded by the township boundaries of Leidy, Chapman, and Noyes. Genealogists will find numerous small burial sites preserved here, including St Josephs Cem overlooking the river and the secluded Robbins Cem and Noyes Cem tucked into the mountain hollows. The presence of Coal Hill and several mines near Drury Run indicates the region's enduring reliance on resource extraction during the mid-century era.
