Richland and New Bridge serve as the primary hubs in this agricultural pocket of Baker County, where the fertile Eagle Valley meets the northern reaches of the Brownlee Reservoir. The landscape is defined by an intricate network of irrigation systems, including the Dry Gulch Ditch, Newt Young Ditch, and Waterbury Ditch, which redirect water from Eagle Creek to support the local homesteads and ranchlands. To the north, the terrain rises into the timbered slopes of the Whitman National Forest, marked by numerous family-named gulches such as Fawn Gulch and Foster Gulch.
