1948 Map of Richmond

About this map

Richmond and the surrounding river valleys are defined by the winding path of the Winooski River and the high peaks of the Green Mountains. In the late 1940s, the Central Vermont railroad and the river corridor served as the primary transit artery, connecting the village of Jonesville to larger regional hubs. The landscape transitions quickly from the industrial activity at the Quarry near Richmond to the high-elevation artillery target range within the Fort Ethan Allen Military Reservation.
