1980 Map of Ridgeland

About this map

Ridgeland and the northern reaches of Jackson define this landscape along the Madison and Hinds County line in 1980. The area showcases a transition from the established campus of Tougaloo College and the surrounding community of Tougaloo to the newer suburban and recreational expansions marked by numerous man-made lakes. Bodies of water like Lake Lorman, Lake Cavalier, and Lake Roanna are prominent, many featuring residential development and private docks. The Natchez Trace Parkway cuts diagonally across the center, intersecting with the Illinois Central Gulf railroad corridor. Further west, the settlement of Cynthia and scattered country churches such as China Grove Ch, Mt Olive Ch, and Hope Spring Ch reflect the rural roots of the region before the growth of the late twentieth century.
