Rio Frio lies at the southern edge of this Hill Country landscape, where the Frio River and Little Frio River converge near the boundary between Real Co and Uvalde Co. The 1968 photogrammetric survey reveals a terrain defined by deep incisions and high ridges, notably Meridian Mountain and the branching network of Little Dry Frio Creek. This area of the Edwards Plateau is characterized by its numerous springs and named hollows, suggesting a landscape where water access dictated the placement of early settlements and routes.
