The Malad River meanders south through this Box Elder County landscape, flanked by the agricultural settlements of Fielding, Riverside, and Plymouth. To the west, the terrain rises sharply into the West Hills, a dissected upland defined by deep drainages such as Marlow Canyon, Butler Canyon, and Magpie Canyon. The transition from the rugged western heights to the river valley is marked by the engineering of the West Canal, which skirts the base of the slopes to support local irrigation.
