The San Saba River winds through this central Texas landscape, defining the southern portion of a territory where the boundaries of Menard and McCulloch counties meet. This ranchland region is marked by a series of named pools along the river course, including Billy Hole, Gobal Hole, and Gravel Hole near the sharp river turn at Picnic Bend. Settlement is concentrated near the southern margin at Robbers Roost and the landmark of Hext, where Hext Cem serves as a primary genealogical site for the surrounding rural community.
