The Allegheny River valley serves as the primary corridor for settlement and industry in this portion of Potter and McKean Counties. During the late 1960s, the village of Roulette remained the focal point of the region, situated at the junction of the river and Fishing Creek. Local community life is anchored by landmarks such as Smith Sch, Riverside Ch, and the Lyman Cem, while an Old RR Grade south of the river traces the path of former rail commerce.

The surrounding terrain is defined by a dense network of steep hollows, including Burt Hollow and Hanson Hollow, many of which were managed as part of State Game Lands No 59. Evidence of the area's natural resource economy is visible through several Quarry sites and numerous gas wells scattered across the ridges. Smaller hamlets like Burtville and Knowlton provide a look at the rural landscape before modern expansion, complete with a local Drive-in Theater near the riverbanks.
