The Klamath Marsh defines the southeastern landscape of this late-century survey, its expansive wetlands and braided channels forming the core of the Klamath Marsh National Wildlife Refuge. Situated on the edge of the Winema National Forest, the region transitions from the water-rich marshlands to the timbered heights of String Butte and the volcanic profile of Round Butte. Evidence of forest management and early settlement persists in the presence of the Three Creek Guard Station and the Round Butte Lookout Road, which winds toward the high ground overlooking the basin.
