About this map

The San Ignacio De La Canoa Grant Boundary defines much of the western valley floor, where the Southern Pacific railroad and the Tucson-Nogales Highway parallel the Santa Cruz River. This mid-century landscape is dominated by the sprawling Santa Rita Experimental Range and a massive Bombing and Gunnery Range, complete with several marked observation towers. To the east, the terrain rises sharply into the Coronado National Forest, where mining history is evident through numerous prospects, a shaft, and the California Gl mine. Settlements like Helvetia and Greaterville sit tucked into the canyons of the Santa Rita Mountains, while valley centers like Sahuarita and Continental serve the agricultural and transit corridors. Notable landmarks include the distinctive Huerfano Butte and several family-named locations such as Johnson Ranch and Mt Fagan Ranch.
