Routt National Forest dominates this high-elevation landscape along the boundary of Routt and Rio Blanco counties. The terrain is defined by a complex network of water management features, including the Last Chance Ditch, Ross Highline Ditch, and Crosho Outlet Ditch, which redirect snowmelt across the high plateaus. These engineered waterways supported the region's agricultural and ranching interests, feeding into numerous storage sites like Allen Basin Reservoir and Chapman Reservoir.
