Routt National Forest dominates this high-altitude landscape along the border of Routt and Rio Blanco Counties. The terrain is defined by prominent peaks and plateaus, including the namesake Sand Point, Pinnacle Peak, and the Little Flat Tops to the south. This area is heavily managed for water resources, as evidenced by a complex system of historical irrigation infrastructure. Notable waterworks such as the Last Chance Ditch, Rossi-Highline-Ditch, and the Allen Basin District Ditch demonstrate the effort required to move water across these slopes.
