Scobey and Hardy sit along the western edge of this landscape, where the transport corridor of Old US Hwy 51 and the modern interstate divide the woodland from the river bottoms. Much of the central and eastern terrain is defined by the Holly Springs National Forest, a territory marked by a dense network of small lakes and ponds such as Texas Lake, Organ Lake, and Jordan Lake.
