Separation Rim defines the high-altitude landscape of this part of Carbon County, serving as a significant geographical anchor along the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail. This 2015 U.S. Geological Survey representation of the high desert shows a complex drainage and basin system, including ephemeral water bodies like Bull Spring Lakes and Soda Lake. The terrain transitions from the steep escarpments of Coyote Springs Rim in the west to the more level Separation Flats in the east.
