Chugach National Forest encompasses a landscape defined by massive ice fields and the high peaks of the Chugach Mountains. The 2023 survey documents the positions of numerous glacial systems, including the Harriman Glacier and Surprise Glacier in the north, alongside the Roaring Glacier and Foot Glacier to the east. These geological features dominate the drainage patterns of the region, where meltwater feeds into the Upper Carmen River in the southwest corner. The map provides a critical record of these glaciers—including the Seth Glacier and Billings Glacier—at a specific point in the early 21st century, offering a baseline for studying ice movement and mountain hydrology within the Anchorage municipality.
