The Simpson Park Mountains dominate this central Nevada landscape, which straddles the high-desert border of Lander and Eureka counties. This 2021 survey reveals a rugged interior defined by a series of deep drainages including Pine Canyon, Grubbs Canyon, and Trail Canyon. The elevation rises sharply toward Fagin Mountain and the distinctive peak of Shagnasty, which overlooks the expansive Shagnasty Basin. These landforms dictate the region's sparse infrastructure, largely confined to specialized routes like Gold Bar Road in the northeastern corner.
